Shaft is a rebellious police officer who is more concerned with
correcting the problems & solving crimes than with following the official
rules, which gets him into trouble. Already sounds like so many TV cop
shows, eh? Anyway, the movie is basically focused around him solving a
major problem, while dealing with minor issues and receiving help/tips from
wacky characters. Hmm, still sounds like many TV cop shows.
Eventually, he gets the bad guys, the chicks, the money, everything. No
big surprise here.
I never saw an episode of Shaft, the TV series; mainly because its airtime was in the 70s and I was under 6 yrs old, so I went into the movie thinking I'd miss out on most of the humor. I was wrong. This was probably one of the best movies I saw this year. At the heart is your basic good guys get the bad guys plot. Add on to it some nice plot twists and a ton of comical, clever writing & humor. Great movie. I may even see again (but not this year).
